Flirting In The 21st Century
(B.R.Wood)

I have been a while now hibernating
When I saw you at the party I started awakening
I found myself asking your friend if you were single
When she said that you were my body started to tingle

And I frowned as I walked home
Thinking about you begin all alone
It’s a cold winters night and you got
no one to cuddle you it doesn’t seem right.

Hey la dee ‘n’ da
I just saw a shooting star or it could have been a satellite
Wishing on space junks maybe not right
But I made a wish any way

And if it was a surveillance craft
orbiting above taking photographs
What it would see as it zoomed in
was my steadily growing grin
‘cause I’m back in the game again

They say that you should not judge a book by it’s cover
Well I want to open you with a view to discover
the story there inside your pages
There’s no rush these things are best done in stages

And I smiled as I walked home
‘cause I got your number it’s in my phone
Is it wrong to feel such elation
for a bunch of digital information?

Hey la dee ‘n’ da
I just saw a shooting star or it could have been a satellite
Wishing on space junks maybe not right
but I made a wish any way

And if it was a Google Earth craft
orbiting above taking photographs
What it would see as it zoomed in
was my steadily growing grin
‘cause I’m back in the game again

I called you the next day and we went walking
From Bondi beach to Coogee we were talking
On the surface it was a whole lot of idle chat
With a rich subtext and flickering eye contact

And it’s such a beautiful day
Sydney winter’s non-existent
Well maybe it’s climate change
Is it wrong of me not to think about that today?
Hey la dee ‘n’ dee
I like you and you like me
Where do you wann go?
There’s no path along this stretch of coast
but let’s go on anyway

And if there was a surveillance craft
orbiting above taking photographs
What it would see as from way up there
is me leading the way with care

Around the headlands by the sea
Hoping for the opportunity
to see you smile and accept my hand
as I lead you over this rocky land
Round the rockpools left by the tide
There’s a whole universe inside
The surface flickering with light
It’s got us both mesmerised
On a winters day that feels like spring
we stand holding hands and grin
at the beautiful game we’re in

Hey la dee ‘n’ dee
I like you and you like me
Hey la dee ‘n’ da
I just saw a shooting star
Where’s this gonna go?
Right now all we need to know
Is it’s the 21st Century
And I’m flirting with you and you’re flirting with me
